That Time I Made Breakfast Magical When It Got Boring

I thrive on routines. Every day I wake up and put on the same black shirt and jeans (of which I have several pairs.)  And always with the rainbow tennis shoes with the yellow lightning bolt. It really does give a kick to an otherwise boring ensemble. But while I enjoy the comfort of a new routine, sometimes you need to mix things up. Which is how I slowly started blowing $12 a couple of mornings a week at Starbucks.

It all started with a wrong turn on the way to work one day, where I tripped upon a Starbucks that actually turned out to be pretty convenient stop. When, you know, you’re bored with your morning routine and want to treat yo self. Breakfast was typically a Kodiak cake mug paired with cold brew.

Then I realized what I was doing. Much like my daily “uniform,” I needed to add a little sparkle. I bought those shoes because I just wasn’t feeling magical enough in the mornings when I was suiting up for work. Now I was trying to jazz up breakfast.

I caught myself in time, ($48 or so later …. ) so now I do one of these in the morning instead and it’s so much cheaper and saves me tons of time. And it adds a little bit of magic.

Side note: Both are paired with Starbucks cold brew from the grocery store because I kept forgetting to refill this. So, I’m still saving money but not as much as I could be. I also pair it with two of the Coldstone Sweet Cream single creamers.

Unicorn Flapjack Mug

1/2 cup Kodiak cake batter (with protein)
1/2 cup water
Sugar-free cream cheese frosting (I want to try Hungry Girl’s frosting next time)
Sprinkles

Mix water and flapjack mix in a mug and microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds*. Top with frosting and sprinkles.

Copycat Starbucks Egg Bite Mug

Liquid egg substitute (3/4 cup-1 cup)
Cooked bacon (3-5 slices, torn up)
Shredded Gouda cheese
Sriracha sauce

Mix and microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds*. Stir and microwave for another 30 seconds. Top with shredded gouda cheese and drizzle with Sriracha sauce.

*All microwaves are different, so your mileage may vary.
